Adjustments + Looking Forward To This Week

One adjustment to a new job I didn’t think about very much beforehand but am now noticing acutely is the need to make shifts to habits and routines.

In my old role, I worked most evenings Monday-Thursday, usually for 2-3 hours each night coaching, and I took a similar amount of time during the day back to work out, run errands, or do anything else that might normally fall during that time.

Now that I’m back in a more 9-5ish role, it’s just a simple switch, right? Plug work back into the day, do all that stuff in the evenings. Not so fast, my friend.

What I’ve found in the last two weeks is that because of other factors: motivation, unforeseen complications, etc., I haven’t been able to do all the things I normally try to do. Going to try to work this out here.

Habits and routines I’d like to keep

  • Writing (ideally first thing in the morning)
  • Meditating (Once in the morning, once after work)
  • Yoga or other workout
  • Making a salad for lunch, eating it while not working
  • Walking the dogs (once in the morning, once in the afternoon)
  • Reading (1 hr)

How I’ve been doing:

  • Writing: well, you can see that here. Okay, not consistent.
  • Meditating: About half what I’d like to be doing.
  • Yoga/workout: 80%
  • Salad for Lunch while not working; 80%
  • Walking the dogs: great, actually! Good forcing mechanism which is their tyranny of the household
  • Reading: Depends on how I frame it. I’ve been reading a lot for work, so if I’m counting that, I’m probably 80% here. And now that I type that, it does count.

Tomorrow: Working out the shifts I need to make.

Looking forward to this week:

  • Dinner w/sister and her boyfriend Tuesday
  • Built to Spill concert Sunday
  • New chartering work Thursday
  • Connecting w/new colleague Wednesday
  • Taking care of parents’ dog while they go to Portugal (my dad’s first trip to Europe!)
