Reflections #3: Monday After Break Edition

Day one back at work. What’s that been like?

  • Mentally: A little bit foggy. I had trouble focusing on reading before work, and as I delved into a deeper reflection, I was having a hard time focusing. This could be a result of not sleeping particularly well, and/or that I’m out of practice. I spent most of my 3 week break not staring at this laptop screen, which was pretty glorious.
  • Emotionally: Not bad—I used my Monday Morning Playlist I talked about a little while back. That was a nice jolt—something familiar but different in the musical realm—and kept my spirits high in the morning. One weird sadness is not spending all day with our puppy basically in my lap. Because I’ve had to, you know, work, I haven’t been spending all of my attention on her and I think we’ve both been minorly sad about that.
  • Physically: I’ve been dealing with some lower back pain for the last…month? It’s still here. I was pretty tight this morning, probably from spending most of yesterday watching football (no regrets), and I’ve been trying to stretch it out as the day goes on. It’s also keeping me from working out, for the most part, though I did take 45 minutes to walk after lunch today.

One question I might add: what am I looking forward to this week?

  • I’m actually excited to get back to work. I had some things I wanted to accomplish over break, I did, and now I’m ready to work again. This is a good feeling.
  • The wife and I have planned a date night in for Wednesday
  • Doing some long-term planning (work-related and non-work-related)
  • Watching the college football national championship
